Geo Controller provides a collection of WordPress shortcodes that allow you to display, hide, personalize, and manage website content based on a visitor’s detected geographic location.
Depending on the shortcode, you can retrieve geographic information, apply location-based conditions, display country-specific content, work with currencies, or create geographic redirects.
Each shortcode supports its own set of attributes, allowing you to configure its behavior without writing custom PHP code.
How Geo Controller Shortcodes Work
Geo Controller shortcodes use the native WordPress shortcode system. You can insert them into supported posts, pages, widgets, and other content areas that process WordPress shortcodes.
For example, the following shortcode displays the visitor’s detected country:
[cfgeo return="country"]
You can also use geographic conditions to display content only to visitors from selected countries.
For example:
[cfgeo include="US,GB,DE"] This content is available to visitors from the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany. [/cfgeo]
Geographic conditions are evaluated using the visitor information available to Geo Controller. The result depends on the shortcode, its attributes, and the detected location.
Common Use Cases
- Geographic content targeting: Display or hide content for selected countries, regions, cities, or continents.
- Content personalization: Insert geographic information into headings, messages, and other website content.
- Regional promotions: Display location-specific banners, offers, and marketing messages.
- Currency information: Display currency-related information using supported currency shortcodes.
- Geographic redirects: Redirect visitors according to supported geographic conditions and shortcode settings.
- Geographic tools: Display supported maps, converters, and other location-aware components.
Important Considerations
Before implementing geographic shortcodes, review how their conditions interact with your website’s content, caching configuration, and visitor experience.
For example, overlapping country and continent rules may produce unexpected results if their conditions are not configured correctly.
Geo Controller uses IP-based geolocation, which provides an approximate location rather than verified proof of a visitor’s physical presence. VPNs, proxies, mobile networks, and geolocation database inaccuracies may affect the results.
Full-page caching and CDN services can also interfere with location-specific output if cached HTML is shared between visitors from different geographic locations.
Recommendation: Always provide appropriate fallback content and test geographic conditions before deploying them on a production website.
Available Geo Controller Shortcodes
Geo Controller provides multiple shortcodes with different attributes and supported behaviors. Refer to the individual shortcode documentation for syntax, configuration options, and practical examples.
